Rent a Car Brazil - Geography Brazil
Brazil lies in Eastern South America, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Being the fifth largest country in the world it occupies half of the South America continent. The country has four major regions. The large highlands, Planalto Brasileiro (the central plateau), passes through most of the interior south of the Amazon basin. The coastline runs along the Atlantic, from Rio Grande to Bahia. The southern basin is dominated with open forests and scrubland. The Amazon basin is the fourth geographical area in Brazil housing the worlds largest river and 30% of the worlds rainforests. Brazil is full of lush vegetation and exotic wildlife. Its rainforests and rivers contain a large range of fauna - which is well known for its diversity. Brazil also ranks first in numbers of mammal species, plants, and fresh water fish. Many species however, are under threat from poachers and forest clear-cutting. Pollution and desertification are also huge problems for Brazil. Brazil is scarcely populated, but its population is growing every year.
