Getting to Bonn
Bonn does not have its own international airport, but there are three within easy reach. The Köln/Bonn airport is 20 kms north, with a local bus service (30 min to the city). Düsseldorf airport is 70 kms further north, with a mainline rail service to Düsseldorfs Hauptbahnhof, connecting with a suburban rail services in Bonn ( about 1 hr 10 min). The proximity of Frankfurt, with its busy air hub, makes this the most practical arrival point for longhaul visitors, opting for a train connection once they land in Germany.
The rail network in Germany is efficient, fast and comfortable and often preferred to air, when covering shorter distances. Its possible to catch direct trains from Bonn to many European cities, or with minimal connections. Local trains run regularly throughout the day to cities along the Rhine. Bonn has one main rail station, centrally located.
An extensive network of buses runs between Bonn and other centres throughout Germany, with nonstop buses running regularly to international destinations.
There are taxi ranks at the main railway stations and many other places in the city.
Scheduled boat trips on the Rhine offer a pleasant way to reach neighbouring areas.
