Car Hire in Bologna - Getting to Bologna
Bologna has an international airport, Guglielmo Marconi, just northwest of the city. It receives flights from many European cities but visitors from further a field usually arrive at Milans Malpensa airport and take the train (3 hours).
Being centrally located, Bologna is a major railway junction for northern Italy, with frequent services from Rome and Milan, many of them Eurostar trains. Venice, Florence, Sam Marino and Milan are several hours away, while Rome is no more than 5 hours journey. Italian trains are fast, efficient and comfortable. They are also good value, with several classes (speed) to choose from.
Bus services to regional centres such as Ravenna, Ferrara and Modena leave from the depot opposite Piazza XX Settembre, around the corner from the train station. Its also possible to take non-stop buses to many European cities.
Roads in Italy are very good, and the network in the North particularly well maintained, making driving a pleasure. Traffic is mild and the scenery can often be good when travelling through Tuscany. If travelling by car, you can reach Bologna on the A1 Autostrada del Sole, which also links Milan, Florence and Rome. The A13 heads directly for Ferrara, Padova and Venezia, the A14 for Rimini and Ravenna, and the Via Emilia (S9), goes on to connect Milan with the Adriatic coast.
