Bocholt is a leading manufacturing town in Western Germany known for its textile industry. Once the capital of Principality of Salm, this modern German municipality got its first mention in the year 779 when Charlemagne won a battle in the nearby Saxon region. Bocholt attained its city rights in 1222 and flourished in the 15th century. Though it was almost destroyed by bombings during the Second World War, Bocholt recovered strongly to become a metropolis.

Bocholt comes under the administrative region of Munster in the district of Borken. Having an area of 119.37 km² at an elevation of 25m and a population of 73,640, Bocholt is in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

There is a dedicated train line from Wesel to north of Bocholt which is a 2 way track and Bocholt can be reached in a maximum of 25 minutes. Bocholt is also nearer to the Netherlands and can also be easily reached from the Dusseldorf International airport.
