Mini guide to Bobigny
Bobigny
In what now is classified as a northern suburb of Paris, Bobigny is just under six miles (10 kms) from the capital’s centre, in the Seine-Saint Denis department. The city has been established since before the Middle Ages, and there are some archaeological sites in and around the city that will interest any visiting history buffs.
The city has built itself up around various industrial pursuits, with each century bringing expanded wealth and prosperity. The city’s sad link to WWII is that a train full of French Jews was taken to Auschwitz from here.
Bobigny remains an ambitious city today, with many urban renewal projects on the go, including a renovation of the banks of the Canal de l’Ourcq and its main city park, Le parc de la Bergere.
One of the city’s interesting landmarks is Le Tour d’Illustration, or the Illustration Tower, which was so called due to the city’s publication L’Illustration, which became quite well known for a time for the high quality illustrations presented in its pages. Such a monument is perhaps befitting of the town where Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny created the national cartoon heroes, Astérix and Obelix.
The city is easy to get around with public transport, but it’s best to rent a car as you will be able to travel more conveniently. We offer inexpensive car rental options, which you can book conveniently online.
