The city was built in the mid 13th century. The Soester Fued in mid 15th century almost destructed the town. The city received a railway network in the end of 19th century. But this track started passenger traffic only in the year 1951.
The city has a station that connects to most major stations like Schieder. Also there are daily buses to the city from Detmold and Barntrup. Also the State Road 252 connects the city to other parts of the province.
Blomberg is situated in a fairly mountainous region with the minimum elevation being 139m and the maximum being 185m above sea level. The city has over 17,000 residents spread over an area of 100 square km. The city is divided into 19 districts.
The city has a fair number of taxis that help you get around it. You can also take the trams that run in some parts of the town. Alternatively you can walk or rent bicycles to get around the town.
The places to visit include the parish church of St. Martini, the Blomberg Castle, the 16th century town hall and the 15th century city gate. There are also a few other churches that can be visited.
