Car Rental Birmingham - Exploring Birmingham

Northern Alabama, on the trailing edges of the Appalachians, is brightened up by the mountain lakes, rivers and canyons of the Tennessee River Valley. This area is particularly scenic and perfect for lovers of the great outdoors. Activities include: hiking, mountain biking, fishing, camping, canoeing and swimming.

There are several attractions within a short drive of the city which are perfect for families. The Arlington Antebellum Home and Gardens is a fine example of Greek Revival architecture dating from the 1840s; while the Birmingham Botanical Gardens feature a 62-acre park with more than 5,000 varieties of plants.

Farther away are the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame at the Talladega Super Speedway in Talladega. Another enthralling destination is the Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park, site of a great Civil War-era blast furnace which has been completely reconstructed.

Those wishing to delve farther into the past can sample the Alabama State Museum of Natural History at Tuscaloosa. Alternatively, Moundville Archaeological Park, situated 18kms to the south of Tuscaloosa, boasts several large mounds of the Indian Mound Builder culture as well as the impressive Jones Archaeological Museum, housing a fascinating collection of artefacts uncovered at the site since the 1930s.

For some less demanding recreation, try the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail or Bent Brook Golf Course, both excellent examples of public golf courses near the city.
