Car Rental Birmingham - Exploring Birmingham
Birmingham is located in the geographical heart of England, and while the city itself is somewhat congested, there are many attractions in the surrounding countryside that can be easily reached by car.
Birmingham became the second-largest city in the country during the Industrial Revolution due to its position near coal and iron ore mines, and this legacy is kept alive at the Black Country Museum in nearby Dudley. The museum includes a reconstruction of a typical mining village, which portrays the harsh conditions in which the miners lived.
Chocoholics will want to visit Cadbury World, where visitors can learn about the complex process by which this delectable substance is made, as well as taste the finished product. The neighbouring village of Bournville was built at the beginning of the 20th century to house workers at the Cadbury factory. Nearby Selly Manor is a lovely old half-timbered house with a delightful Elizabethan herb garden.
If youre looking to relax in a quiet green area, head for Cannon Hill Park, which is situated to the south of Birmingham. Here, you can row a boat across the lake, play tennis or visit the Nature Centres underwater observation deck. If youre more in the mood for a long ramble, make for the Sutton Park National Nature Reserve near Sutton Coldfield, where you can roam over a vast area of heath and woodlands.
Farther afield, Leicester was built on the Roman settlement of Ratae Coritanorum. Today you can still see evidence of the Roman occupation at the Jewry Wall, the site of the largest Roman bath to be found in England. Visit the Archaeology Museum to learn about Leicester's history from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages.
