Car Rental Bergamo - Exploring Bergamo
Bergamo is one of the most refined of Lombardys cities. Its close proximity to Milan, the Alps and the beautiful Lake District makes it a great base for exploring the region.
Only 50kms away is the bustling metropolis of Milan, long a byword for excellence in fashion and shopping. One of its chief draws though, is the huge Gothic cathedral, which is one of the biggest in the world. The sheer size of this 14th century creation is enough to shake even the most jaded traveller.
A climb to the roof of the cathedral is an experience not to be missed; the panorama is breathtaking, and you can even see the Alps on a clear day. You can also sit in one of the citys trendy pavement cafés and people-watch while sipping a frothy cappuccino, or shop in its many ultra-hip designer stores.
An area to visit which boasts refined resorts and beautiful vistas is northern Italys Lake District. The most famous of these crystal clear blue waters are lakes Como, Garda and Maggiore.
The areas beauty has attracted poets and writers through the centuries; today people still flock here to cruise on the waters, stay in traditional opulent hotels, stroll through the medieval streets and eat at some of Italys best restaurants.
Mantua is a longer journey away. The home of the Roman poet, Virgil, it was referred to by the writer Aldous Huxley, as the most romantic city in the world. It still retains much of its charm and visitors flock to gaze at its refined architecture.
