Car Hire

Bergamo Airport, sometimes referred to as Milan-Bergamo Airport, can be found a little over two miles southeast of the stunning town of Bergamo, in Italy. The airport primarily services Milan, which is only around 28 miles away by car. A bus service runs from the airport to Bergamo’s centre. Buses run 24 hours; however, they are not particularly reliable. Car rentals are available and it is a short 15-minute drive from the airport to the centre of Bergamo.

Who to Book With
There are a number of international car rental companies available at Bergamo Airport. Avis, Alamo and Europcar all offer rental services and all cars can be either booked prior to arrival or on the day. The company offices can be found in the main terminal.

- A valid driver’s licence, both parts
- Your passport
- The credit card used to book the reservation
- The booking confirmation number
- Proof of address, such as a bank statement

Driving
When driving in the cities in Italy, expect a lot of traffic and minimal parking. Outside of the cities, driving is a great way to see the stunning scenery that Italy has to offer. A road atlas will prove invaluable for getting around as roads are not always well signposted. Toll roads are common across the area so keep plenty of change in the car on longer journeys. These toll roads are well maintained, as are most of the major roads. Although petrol stations are common, for longer journeys it is advisable to keep the tank full.

Transport

A bus service runs from the airport to Bergamo city centre 24 hours. Taxis are also commonly used, although it is advisable to book in advance to avoid having to haggle over a price. Car hire can be either booked in advance or on the day of arrival and there are a number of companies that can provide this service.

Trains
Although there is a train station in Bergamo city centre, there is no direct link from the airport. A bus runs from the airport to the train station. This service leaves every half an hour, costs around £2 and takes 15 minutes. From Bergamo train station it is possible to reach all of the major cities, such as Milan, by direct service. Taxis
The taxi rank at Bergamo Airport can be found outside of the main terminal. It is also possible to book a taxi in advance via the Bergamo Airport website www.bergamoairport.co.uk.

Buses
The number 1 bus service, run by ATB bus network, takes passengers from the airport to the city centre, stopping off at a number of big resorts on the way. A single journey costs about £2.50. The buses do not have separate luggage sections. Passengers with more than a smaller bag might find it a little uncomfortable, as it can get very crowded. Facilities

Terminals
There is one terminal in Bergamo Airport and here visitors can find a number of services. The airport is the fourth busiest in Italy, servicing around eight million passengers a year. Bergamo is serviced by a number of budget airlines flying from the UK.

Parking
Any passengers travelling with charter flights are eligible for special parking rates in areas B and C. Area C is uncovered and costs about £25 for seven days. Area B is covered and parking here costs around £40 for seven days. Passengers must show travel documents to be eligible for these rates.

Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport. The first 30 minutes is free, with a £2.50 charge for every 30 minutes after this. Payment for the Wi-Fi can be made online by credit card or by cash at the information services office.

Information Services
The information office is open seven days a week from 08:00 until 21:00. Here tourists can find local information as well as airport information and a hotel booking service. The office is located in the main terminal.

Accessibility
There are help request points at both the car park and the entrance, where visitors with disability issues can request assistance. Ramps can be found throughout the airport to make it easier for wheelchair users to get around, along with lifts and specially equipped toilets. Reserved seating on flights is also available, along with early check in.

Restaurants and Bars
There are a number of restaurants in Bergamo Airport. Agripromo Bergamo serves local cuisine, while Autogrill S.p.A offers quick bites such as sandwiches and Italian style snacks. Iniziative Commerciali offers spirits and beers, along with snacks and food.

VIP Lounges

Terminal 1:
There is one VIP lounge in Bergamo Airport. Here customers can benefit from complimentary refreshments, priority check-in of passengers and baggage, televisions and electricity sockets.

Money and ATMs
There are two banks located in the terminal and both are open 24 hours. Banca Popolare Di Bergamo and Creditio Bergamasco both offer money exchange and both have ATMs that can dispense either euros or pounds.

Shopping
In Bergamo Airport visitors will find plenty of duty-free shopping. Perfume, confectionary, spirits and beers are all available. There are also a number of Italian designer stores and other shops, although no UK names. There’s a Timberland shop offering popular footwear, along with a Watch Studio and Man in Italy.
