Car Hire in Belgium - Getting to Belgium
This small country is serviced by only two international airports. Zaventem, the busiest, is 14kms northeast of Brussels. It is well serviced by many airlines with regular transatlantic flights, as well as flights to many Asian destinations. There are also non-stop flights to several Australian/Pacific and African destinations. Transport into the city is regular, reliable and efficient by bus, train or taxi. The other airport, Deurne, is close to Antwerp and mainly receives regional flights, proving more convenient if youre arriving from Amsterdam, London, Liverpool and Dublin (only).
Most visitors arriving from elsewhere in Europe prefer rail, with Belgium being only a few hours from Paris, Amsterdam, London, the Rhineland and Copenhagen. Eurostar and Thalys high-speed trains make the journey quick, convenient and comfortable, with London a mere three hours away. Brussels has three main stations and is the central hub, with lines in all directions.
Buses depart from all centres to destinations throughout the region, and its possible to take non-stop rides from the main centres to destinations on the opposite side of continental Europe as well as to the UK.
Two companies operate car/passenger ferries to and from Britain: North Sea Ferries (overnight from Zeebrugge to Hull) and Oostende Lines/Sally Ferries (six boats daily between Ostend and Ramsgate).
