Car Hire Batley - Mini guide to Batley
Situated in the spectacularly scenic Kirklees area of the Pennines Yorkshire region, Batley is a delightful town full of traditional architecture, excellent edutainment venues and a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere.
Most visitors come to the area for its refreshing outdoor recreational opportunities, which Batley provides in the form of the vast Wilton Park, also known to locals as Batley Park, a perfect destination for the whole family. The park contains a small lake, playgrounds and sporting facilities, as well as woodlands, an ornamental garden and historic buildings. Alongside Bagshaw Museum is the Butterfly House, full of many native and tropical butterfies. Nearby is the well hidden Batley Observatory, home to the Batley Astronomical Society.
Wandering around the town, you will discover attractions such as Batley Art Gallery, with ever-changing exhibitions of works from artists all over the country, and the excellent Skopos Motor Museum, housing one of the most extensive collections of cars in the UK.
Batley has ample quality accommodation and restaurants.
Just out of town is another vast parkland area, Oakwell Hall Country Park, covering 100 acres. There are a number of paths around the park, with some offering disabled access, and there is a bridle-way linking one end of the park to the other, providing a relaxing yet steep ride for cyclists and horse riders. For children this is a large adventure playground and a number of large open areas available for public use. Oakwell Hall is an excellent and well preserved example of 17th century England complete with original furnished rooms. Further afield are the dramatic moorlands and green valleys of the Peak District and South Pennines.
Leeds/Bradford and Manchester International Airports have a large number of domestic and international scheduled routes. Batley is sandwiched between Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield within easy reach of several major highways. It is connected to the rest of the UK rail network via Leeds.
