Located just south of the town of Middenhall, Barton Mills is a small charming village and a comfortable base for exploring the surrounding countryside and attractions.

Named after the village corn mill, Barton Mills’ most notable landmark is the lovely fortified parish church of St Mary, complete with a South porch and Western tower. The marvelous hand-painted glass, depicting St John the Baptist and St Edmund, can be seen in the church. The clock was inserted in the tower in 1911.

The Mill itself was torn down in 1950, however Mill Pond and Mill House remain popular tourist attractions. Elsewhere in the village is the central Village Hall, while a relaxing stroll along The High Street will turn up most of Barton Mill’s architectural heritage.

With costs lower than more famous nearby towns such as Bury St Edmunds, Barton Mills is an affordable and comfortable place to stay. The village has several quality restaurants, with a quiet nightlife scene set among the local pubs and bars.

An excellent walkway runs along the picturesque Lark River to Mildenhall, crossing over two beautiful arched bridges. The footpath is adjacent to the Norah Hanbury Kelk Nature Reserve, popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Those seeking more history can head for Bury St Edmunds and Mildenhall, just a short distance away. Other attractions in the region include Ickworth House and Park, as well as West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village.

The nearest of the London airports is Stansted, which has a growing number of services from within the British Isles and mainland Europe. Access to the other London Airports is good via the M25 or by rail via London. Norwich has services from several British and European cities.
