Over 1000yrs since it was founded in 902, the Town of Bamberg was initially included in the Diocese of Bamberg. Since then it has been under different administrations and finally the first republican constitution was passed after the First World War.

Located in Bavaria under the Upper Franconian administration, this town is called the Franconian Rome as it stretches over 7 hills each crowned by a church.

Bamberg is 2 hours from Munich and 4 hours from Berlin to travel by train. From the Frankfurt International airport, Bamberg can be reached by a train from Würzburg. Autobahn A70 is located along the Northern end and A73 in the eastern end of the town. Water transport is also available.

Going around by walk to explore the town is an excellent idea for tourists who wish to admire the old town houses and to appreciate the rich historic culture. Buses are the main means of transport which operate frequently with special “Night Lines” and Park and Ride lines.

This UNESCO World Cultural Heritage with its medieval tradition is also famous for its other sights which include the Cathedral with its Romanesque architecture, Alte Hofhaltung which was were the olden day bishops stayed, Neue Residenz where the new age bishops stayed, the Old town hall accessible by 2 bridges as it is built on the Regnitz River and Klein-Venedig which was a colony of fisherman along the river’s banks.
