Centrally located on the Spanish-Portuguese border, Badajoz Airport has grown enormously in recent years. In the period 1999 to 2003 passenger numbers tripled, going from 19,000 to more than 65,000.Traffic is mostly scheduled and domestic, and Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona are the two destinations with which Badajoz has scheduled flights.
A single-level terminal building caters for all domestic and international flights. The terminal building has only very basic facilities for passengers. The airport has a café, and two travel agents have outlets in the airport to aid with any further travel plans.
Those who require special assistance or wheelchairs should notify their airlines when booking their flight. Specially fitted toilets and ramps are located across the airport. Designated parking areas are available in the car park opposite the terminal. An airport information desk is located in the terminal building near the departure gate.
Badajoz Airport is 14kms from the city and 45kms from Merida, the capital city of Extremadura and is easily accessed by both private and public transportation. The airport can be reached on an access road that turns off the N-V motorway. Taxis are available from outside the terminal building and run to central Badajoz and other nearby locations.
There is one huge car park located directly opposite the terminal building which offers short-term and long-term parking. There is a pick up and drop off area right outside the terminal entrance, and assistance is available for the mobility impaired.
