Austria enjoys a moderate continental climate, and it is good to visit any time of the year. There are three main climatic zones: the east has a continental climate, the central region has an alpine climate, and the rest of the country has a central European climate. In summer (May–October) it gets very warm, but the nights remain cool. Temperatures tend to stay between 20 and 25 degrees in most places, other than at really high altitudes.

The winter season (December–April) is still predominantly sunny with widespread snow at higher altitudes. Lowlands receive frequent rain during winter and temperatures remain below five degrees. By mid-December the ski season really takes off and mountains are covered in thick, powdery snow. Spring is also a beautiful time to visit Austria, with Alpine flowers spread thickly across the Alps.
