Vienna is Austria's main air transport hub, and 12 million a year arrive at Flughafen Wien Schwechat. There are frequent flights to all major European cities, with the bulk of traffic coming from London. Although there are routes to north American cities, as well as Asia and Australia, many choose to fly to the main hubs, such as London, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam, then connect or catch trains. Sometimes this is a cheaper or more convenient option. The S-bahn (line 7), takes 30 minutes to and from the airport (20 kilometres from the centre), running several times an hour, from the Westbahnhof or City Air Terminal. There are also international airports at Linz, Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt, servicing European destinations.
Austria is centrally located in Europe, making traveling by rail a good option. Trains are fast, efficient and can be caught directly to many European cities. The most frequent services are to Bratislava, Ljubljana, Munich, and Berlin. Vienna is the main hub with daily departures to many major European cities. You can travel to Salzburg from Munich in two hours.
Bus connections across Western and Eastern Europe are plentiful, but they're generally slower, cheaper, and less comfortable than trains. Its possible to catch a bus from Vienna to London, Copenhagen or even Istanbul.
There are numerous road entry points from Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, and Switzerland, open 24/7. Formalities are trouble free due to the EU Schengen Agreement.
