Car Hire Auckland Airport - Mini guide to Auckland Airport
AKL is situated 21 kilometres south of downtown Auckland, and is the main gateway to New Zealand. International services are available to destinations across Asia, Europe, and North America. Almost 25,000 passengers pass through Auckland International daily, with over 300 domestic flights and 80 international connections occurring each day.
The airport has three terminals, two domestic and one international terminal. All are connected by a courtesy shuttle bus, which operates every 20 minutes between 0545-2230, though passengers may also walk between terminals.
Banks with bureaux de change are positioned across from Departures and Arrivals in the International Terminal, with ATMs on the terminals ground and first floors. Post boxes are distributed across the terminal. As flight announcements are seldom delivered over the public address system, passengers are advised to refer to screens for flight information.
Many restaurants, cafés, and bars are provided in the airport. Also, you will find over 80 shops dispersed across the terminals. Cafe Down Under, the Kiwi Café, City of Sails Cafe & Bar, and a McDonald's are available. A wide selection of shops includes Sunglass Hut, Sounds Music, and Oceanic Arts.
An airport medical centre is located immediately outside the International Terminal. Also available is a health club, children's playroom, and a golf course with driving range and mini-golf.
People with mobility difficulties are catered for with automatic doors, lifts, and wheelchair assistance in the International Terminal. There are also specially designed toilets and showers. Those with vision problems are facilitated by ATMs fitted with Braille keys. Disabled parking spaces, located across from the terminals and in the airport car parks, are available for card holders.
Two conference rooms are provided on the top floor of The International Terminal and another three rooms are in the Air New Zealand Domestic Terminal (Tel: (0) 9 256 8915). Facilities are ideal for both small and large meetings. Additional catering facilities are available upon reservation.
Connections that cater for mobile computing are located both land and airside, in the reading/writing areas.
