Mini guide to Athens Airport
This newly constructed airport is situated 27 kilometres northeast of downtown Athens, and handles direct international flights to Europe and America. It is also the hub of domestic air-traffic, serving provincial airports on many Grecian islands.
There is one main terminal as well as a mid-field concourse, which has boarding gates, but no check-in or baggage reclaim facilities. Passengers check in at the main terminal and may reach the mid-field concourse via a connecting walkway.
ATMs are present in both the Arrivals and Departures halls of the main terminal. There are also two bureaux de change and two banks to be found in the Arrivals hall.
The main terminal provides ample choice of refreshments, with a generous selection of restaurants, both self-service and waited. Also, the mid-field concourse has its own snackbar. Metropolis, Accessorize, Reebok, Cartoon Store, and Body Shop are amongst the shops available in the terminal, as well as Presspoint and Boss.
Further shopping in the main terminal includes duty-free, newsagents, gift shops, boutiques, bookstores, and a selection of specialty shops. You will also find a convenience store in the mid-field concourse. A lost-property office is situated in the main terminal's Arrivals hall (Tel: (0) 10 353 0000).
Four first aid rooms are on hand in Departures and Arrivals of both the main terminal and the mid-field concourse, with baby changing rooms provided in both main terminal and mid-field concourse.
Facilities for the motion-impaired are good, with specially fitted toilet ramps where required. Walkways have been adapted for those with vision problems and Braille signage further facilitates transit. Dedicated check-in desks are also available, while specifically adapted electric cars will transfer the motion-impaired between terminals.
The mobile professional may avail of the office and business facilities provided by the IT&T Business Centre in the main terminal. Offices are fitted with PC workstations, internet access, telephones with data ports, fax machines, both laser and colour printers, scanning equipment, copy and binding.
One conference room, suitable for up to six, is located on floor 2 of the main terminal; it provides video conferencing equipment. Five fully equipped private offices, with internet-enabled PCs, are also provided at the centre. These offices have video-conferencing and e-mail access.
