Aschaffenburg

When one thinks of Ashaffenburg, which is just a German town located on the back of Main, there are lots of interesting facts to consider about this town. Of course, its buildings such as the much talked about Johannisburg as well as the cathedral that was first established in some time during the 12th century by Otto from Bavaria, are all very famous symbols that remain highly sacrosanct as well. There are other buildings of significance too such as the theater and the mansions that are traced back to German aristocrats.

It would be noteworthy to state that the early history of Ashchaffenburg was that of Roman origin because it has been established that it had been a settlement for Romans during the time of the middle ages. But let’s not go into the historical days that are already bygone. All we need to be aware of is that due to a treaty that came into effect way back, this town is now considered to be a district that is located as part of the Bavarian kingdom.

When we talk about the castle Johannisburg, it should be noted that the Mainz archbishops lived in this castle which can be traced back to medieval times but was known to have been badly damaged by a war that happened during 1552 but the castle found light again through efforts of yet another of its dedicated archbishops namely, Johann Schweikart von Kronberg.

So what emerged from the rebuilding efforts was the new form that it took from the imagination of its architect, Georg R. who was responsible in giving his imagination a completely new twist to bring tower prominence and winged look to this once damaged castle which was transformed into a late renaissance German castle where tourists would flock to.

There are four city museums that thrive in Aschaffenburg known as the Stiftsmuseum, the Castle Museum, the Museum of Nature and lastly, there is the Gentil House. The city museums are known to organize special events and exhibitions so that children and adults enjoy these festivities to the fullest.

With these little tidbits of information on Aschaffenburg, go ahead and visit this place to enjoy its scenic beauty and festive spirit.
