Car Hire in Aoyama / Tokyo - Mini guide to Aoyama / Tokyo

Located in northeastern Tokyo is the neighborhood known as Aoyama which means “Blue Mountain.” Rich in Japanese history, this neighborhood is a trendy place for the young people of Tokyo. It has great shopping, lots of restaurants, and several fashion houses where made to order clothing is available. Shopping guides and maps are available for those wishing to tour these up-and-coming fashion houses.

In the northern section of Aoyama is the Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium. It was opened in 1947 and has been renovated twice, once in 1973 and again in 2003. During the last renovation, a new electronic scoreboard was installed in order to modernize the facilities. It has a grass rugby field and seats over 27,000 spectators. In anticipation, looking forward to placing a bid to host the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the stadium has now been outfitted with lights for those games will be played at night.

Aoyama Gakuin University is a unique institution. The school includes a kindergarten, elementary school, junior/senior high school, and a women’s junior college. It also operates a student exchange program in which the student can study in Japan and learn about and come to a deeper understanding of the Japanese culture.

The Aoyama Cemetery was opened in 1872 and is the largest cemetery in this neighborhood. The cemetery is well known for its cherry blossom viewing parties. Because of the lights in the area, the parties will often run very late in the evening and those wishing to go must arrive early to get a good spot from which to view the lights and the blossoms. Turning the viewing parties into a festival type atmosphere, people bring homemade food from home or they purchase it from vendors selling fried noodles or yakitori or even Domino’s Pizza.

Hire a car and find the shops and restaurants and even the brightly lit cemetery full of cherry blossoms in this Japanese town. It’s a great place to explore.
