The bustling capital city of the Charente department, Angouleme is located in southwestern France. If time permits, visit the market Les Halles, located on the site of an old jail where you can check out the lifestyle of the locals and look for souvenirs to bring home. Those into art and comics cannot miss the Musee de la Bande Dessine, which displays an impressive collection of comic strips, while the International Comics Festival takes place here every January.
