Mini guide to Anaheim
Located in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Anaheim is synonymous with entertainment and theme parks, making the city one of the most popular family destinations in the US. The city is home to Disneyland, California Adventure and Knott's Berry Farm.
Disneyland remains one of the most famous theme parks in the world, and the original park has been continually revamped and added to, ensuring that both first time and return visitors are surprised by the attractions. The 'Happiest Place on Earth' now features Adventureland, Critter Country, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Main Street USA, Mickey's Toontown, New Orleans Square and Tomorrowland. There is truly something for people of all ages at Disneyland.
Other main theme parks in the city are California Adventure and Knott's Berry Farm. If you get tired of the crowds and hectic pace of theme parks, head to the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace, a 3.6-hectare site just 11kms from Disneyland, which includes displays related to Nixon's term in office and important events in the latter half of the 20th century.
As you would expect from a city that plays host to masses of people from all over the world throughout the year, the dining options in Anaheim are inexhaustible. Similarly, the range of nightlife offers everything from charming jazz bars and cafés to raging discos and clubs. There are also plenty of quality shopping opportunities. For relaxation and exercise, you'll find rich farmland, beautiful coasts and the great outdoors.
Anaheim is convenient to all other major attractions around Los Angeles. For more theme fun, try Hollywood and Universal Studios, which let you experience the famous American film industry; alternatively, those into reality might like to head to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive for a glimpse of the rich and famous. Along the coast are some of the state's most famous beaches like Malibu and Venice; while those with their own car can sample parts of the spectacular Route 66.
Anaheim is located just 48kms south of Los Angeles and can reached via I-5, the major north-south highway through the state. Amtrak has passenger trains that run north-south through California's major metropolitan areas as well as eastward from San Francisco connecting to the inland states. Greyhound bus services connect all of the major cities in California to destinations beyond the state. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is one of the nation's busiest, with connections all over the world.
