Car Hire in Amsterdam - Getting to Amsterdam
Schiphol International Airport is one of the worlds busiest and an important European hub with flights to every continent, and major cities the world over. Situated just 10kms southwest of Amsterdam, it conveniently has connections to centres throughout Europe through its modern, highly organized and well equipped terminals. Trains run every 15 minutes to Amsterdams Centraal Station (15 mins), stopping selectively at suburban stations en-route. There are also expensive taxis, buses and shuttles to hotels in the city. Some people prefer flying into the slightly less busy Brussels and Paris airports and using high speed trains (Thalys) to get to the Netherlands.
From Amsterdam's Centraal Station there are high speed trains to Belgium, France, Denmark and Germany, as well as all centres throughout the Netherlands. The rail network is fast, efficient and extensive. Often its easier to take trains to neighbouring countries, due to the short distances involved.
A good selection of buses leave from Amsterdam to cities all over Europe as far away as Hungary, Italy and Stockholm. Ferries link several coastal centres with the UK.
The Netherlands has an excellent, well-maintained highway network, though most of the traffic is found in the north around the Randstad region, including Amsterdam, the Hague and Rotterdam. Driving is safe and easy, but be prepared for congestion. Typically, it takes six hours to drive to Paris.
