Car Hire in Alghero
Getting to Alghero
Alghero is located on the northwestern coast of the island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea. The city has an international airport and a good road connection with the commercial port of Porto Torres.
The airport is located at Fertilia, 10kms to the east of the centre of town, and is well served by both scheduled and charter air services. From outside the airport terminal, the number 9 bus runs to Alghero station every 30 minutes, costing about 1 one way. Alternatively, there are plenty of taxis available to take you into the town.
If arriving by car in the capital Cagliari, take the SS131 and SP56 to Oristano on the western coast. Carry on through Oristano, connecting with the SS292. Stay on the SS292 until just before the village of Flussio, where you fork off left on to the SP49. The SP49 links up with the SP105 all the way to Alghero.
Trains arrive some way out of the centre, but regular buses connect the station to the town. Daily trains run from Algheros small station to the central station in Sassari, with connecting services to Olbia and the islands capital, Cagliari.
The nearest commercial port is 40kms away at Porto Torres, with frequent connecting ferries from Genoa (on the Italian mainland), Marseille and Toulon. Buses are timed to coincide with ferry landings and will take you to Alghero.
