Car Hire in Albufeira - Getting to Albufeira
Situated in the middle of the Algarve on Portugals southern coast, Albufeira has an international airport nearby and good road and rail connections.
Faro International Airport is 36kms from Albufeira. The Rodoviaria Nacional bus operates between the airport and the city centre, taking about 30 minutes. Aerobus provides a shuttle service between the airport and the city centre daily (except Tuesdays). Additionally, buses run between Faro and Albufeira every hour, and the journey time is one hour. A taxi from the airport to the resort will cost about 40 and is the quickest option.
If youre coming from Lisbon by car, take the A2 leading on to the IP1 highway all the way to the N125, which is just north of Albufeira. From here, take Route 595 to reach Albufeira and the water. The town is well signposted in all directions. Coming from Spain, stay on the E1/IP1 highway west and follow directions as above from the N125.
Travelling by train is also an option, since Portugal is part of the European rail network and can easily be reached from most of the European capitals. There are two trains a day, numbers 871 and 873, from Lisbons southern Barreiro station which is reachable by ferry over the Tagus River.
The trains leave at 08:55 and 19:55 arriving at Ferreiras, near Albufeira, at 12:49 and 23:53 respectively. From Ferreiras, buses run every 30 minutes to and from the resort. In the other direction, train numbers 870 and 872 leave Albufeira at 09:30 and 18:09 and arrive in Barreiro at 13:30 and 22:13 respectively.
Buses run frequently between all Algarve towns, and several companies offer various daily options from various towns to Lisbon, Seville, Malaga, Gibraltar and other destinations throughout southern Portugal and Spain (Andalusia).
