Alaskas largest city, Anchorage, and its capital Juneau, offer a range of cultural destinations. Anchorages Museum of History and Art has a collection featuring artists from around the world, and its Native Museum contains historical artifacts and information on Alaskas native peoples. Juneau, the capital, contains the St. Nicolas Russian Orthodox Church, a stunning reminder of Alaskas pre-American Russian history.
There are almost infinite opportunities for outdoor adventure in Alaska. From Denaili National Park, home of Mt. McKinley, to Glacier Bay National Park there are opportunities for hiking, skiing, dog sledding, hunting, swimming, fishing, biking, mountain climbing and just about any other outdoor activity that you can think of. Around Alaska there is much opportunity for camping, but if you are looking for good restaurants, bars and hotels, Anchorage and Juneau are your best bets.
You need a car to get almost anywhere in Alaska, and only small aircraft can reach some places. Pilots and planes can be hired in most cities.
Flights can be gotten to Anchorage and Juneau from many cities in the United States and Canada.
