Juneau, the capital, contains the St. Nicolas Russian Orthodox Church, a stunning reminder of Alaska’s pre-American Russian history.

There are almost infinite opportunities for outdoor adventure in Alaska. From Denaili National Park, home of Mt. McKinley, to Glacier Bay National Park there are opportunities for hiking, skiing, dog sledding, hunting, swimming, fishing, biking, mountain climbing and just about any other outdoor activity that you can think of. You need a car to get almost anywhere in Alaska, and only small aircraft can reach some places. Pilots and planes can be hired in most cities.
