Car Hire in Acapulco - Getting to Acapulco
Acapulco is easily accessed via major cities throughout the world. The newly renovated Juan N Alvarez International Airport (ACA) is located about 20 minutes east of the city. Direct and non-stop flights are available from Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Chicago and Newark. Connecting flights are also available through Mexico City from every major American city. Flights from Europe also make connections through Mexico City. From South America, you can catch seasonal direct flights from Sao Paolo and Buenos Aires.
The drive to Acapulco on Highway 95 (toll road) between the Mexico City and Acapulco is fast and efficient, taking about three hours; however, the road is the most expensive stretch of toll road in Mexico, costing around US$60 each way for a car. This amazing scenic route includes a drive across the Solidaridad Bridge, a structure that connects the highway across a breathtaking gorge.
Alternatively, the older Highway 95D is more scenic and takes about five hours. You can make stops at the lovely colonial cities of Taxco and Cuernavaca along this route.
Buses run all day from Mexico City's Terminal Sur to Acapulco's main bus station. The journey distance is about 288kms and will take around four to five hours. There are two bus terminals in Acapulco as the Estrella de Oro (the company which runs Diamante (Diamond) service to and from Mexico City) has a separate terminal a few blocks from the main station.
As the second largest port in Mexico, Acapulco has several international liners bringing tourists into the bay.
