If you’re interested in stepping back in time to experience Scottish village life fifty years ago, Fittie (otherwise known as Footdee by locals) is a charmingly-preserved fishing village at the mouth of the Dee.

The Glenfiddich and Glenlivet distilleries are just two famous names found on the popular whisky trail. Several tours ply a rather drunken route through this territory.

The nearby Grampian mountains are among the world’s oldest and present a lovely day’s drive among the many castles for which the area is so famous. Most famous of the castles is Dunnottar Castle - a dramatic and evocative ruin perched on the coastal cliffside, not far from the city. It’s important history and more recently starring role in Hamlet, have secured its reputation.

Surprisingly, the Aberdeen area also boasts one of the longest stretches of golden sand in Britain, though the water might be a little cold. Scotland is, however, more famous for golf and fine courses can be found at Murcar Golf Club, Banchory Golf Club and Ballater Golf Club.
