Car Rental Malaysia - Exploring Malaysia
Driving around Malaysia allows you to discover many of this proud nation's most treasured spots.
Melaka (Malucca) is an unusual blend of Chinese, Dutch, Portuguese and British influences and is unquestionably Malaysia's most historic city. It was once the most important trading port within 500 miles but little remains of its industrious past. Ancient-looking junks still sail up the river, and the city remains full of intriguing Chinese streets, temples and memories of the old European colonial powers.
Penang, and its main city - Georgetown, is off Peninsula Malaysia's northwestern coast, and is the oldest British settlement in Malaysia as well as one of the country's premier tourist resort areas. The island's beaches are overrated but very nice nonetheless. Georgetown has an interesting Chinatown, and also features a city zoo, sumptuous Indian food, trishaws and markets.
The Cameron Highlands are a number of spectacular high-altitude hill stations located in the centre of Peninsular Malaysia. This fertile area is the home of Malaysia's tea industry and is where locals and visitors come to escape the speedy life of the cities. Attractions include jungle walks, waterfalls, tours of tea plantations, beautiful gardens and plenty of wild flowers. The climate is fresh and cool due to the high altitudes, a welcome change from the sweltering humidity of most of Malaysia.
Though not accessible by car, Tioman Island lies off the eastern coast of Peninsula Malaysia in the South China Sea. It boasts beautiful beaches, breathtaking marine life including whale sharks and turtles, virtually unpopulated jungle highlands, crystal-clear streams, and the dramatic peaks of Batu Sirau and Nenek Semukut. June and August are the peak tourist months, but the monsoon periods from November to January leave the island almost deserted.
The volcanic island of Pulau Tiga off Kuala Penyuh offers good walking trails and several excellent snorkelling spots. The East coasts Similan Islands offer similar beauty, though this beauty is somewhat tainted by tourism.
