Where will you be travelling to this Valentines Day?

Posted by

Birds do it, bees do it…

Even educated fleas do it. No, we’re not talking about toilet business– we’re talking about falling in love. In fact, why did you even bring that up? Urgh. You filthy tyke. We’re trying to create a romantic feel to this blog post here… And why? Well, because today is the Day of Love itself, St. Valentine’s Day!

Sat where it is in the calendar

A mere six weeks after the ever wallet-busting Christmas – you can be forgiven to keeping things pretty low-key. But if you happen to have a few quid stashed away for a love-y day, you can always treat your other half to a trip away somewhere. It might be a bit late now, but there’s no harm in planning for next year, is there?

Our MD here at Carrentals.co.uk, Gareth Robinson says: “Every year we see a surge in bookings for Valentine’s Day, with many couples looking for somewhere new to explore together. As a result, a growing number of couples are choosing something different to the traditional city break, and hiring a car offers them the freedom to explore the culture, scenery and sights of a much wider area.”

With that in mind, here’s a quick look at a few of our favourite romantic driving trips. Why have we written it for you? Well, because we love you (but not like that…)

The Amalfi Coast

Arguably Italy’s most stunning coastline, the Amalfi coast is a certified UNESCO World Heritage Site and an absolute mecca for lovers. It has it all – beautiful views, great restaurants (Neapolitan is perhaps the best type of Italian cuisine), bustling harbours, traditional hillside towns, everything. Grilled lobster with a bottle of Solopaca while watching the sun set? If Casanova was about now, he’d be on the table next to yours.

Seville

The southern Spanish city of Seville is of course famous for its large bitter oranges. Not that big citrus fruits can’t be romantic or anything, but Seville offers a lot more than oranges to lovers on holiday. The Andalusian capital, lit up at night, offers up some truly amazing Castilian and Moorish architecture, particularly its cathedrals. If Don Juan was about now (and not fictional), he’d been walking down the street with a lady next to you.

Champagne

Not just a sparkling wine, but a French province and romantic getaway too. The name actually comes from the Roman ‘Campania’. And where’s Campania? The Amalfi Coast! These lover’s getaways are spiritually linked, it seems. Enjoy the drink of the area with some of the best food you’re ever likely to eat before a leisurely stroll down by the Siene. For a day trip, you’re only about two hours drive to the home of love, Paris.

Western Scotland

Rolling hills, icy lochs, roaring fires, picturesque landscapes, log cabins, haggis, what more could you want for a passionate mini-break? Well, okay – maybe not the haggis. But still… Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Romantic Road

Well, it’s started well with the name… Romantic Road is a stretch of Germany that lasts for over 350km. This ‘theme route’ takes in some of the most wonderful sights of mainland Europe and offers plenty of places for couples to pull over for… Dinner. There you go being filthy again. Tut.

So wherever you decide to cruise too – enjoy! No kissing while you’re driving, though okay? It’s dangerous. We know what you’re like…
