  4. All change in F1

    January 4, 2011 by

Just before Christmas the governing body of motorsport, the FIA, announced a raft of changes to the rules for Formula One racing. For a start, this year the controversial rule about ‘no team orders’ is being dropped. The rule meant that a team couldn’t tell a driver to let his team-mate past and Ferrari were fined this year for doing so with Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso at the German Grand Prix when Massa’s race engineer, Rob Smedley, famously told his driver: “Fernando is faster than you. Do you understand? Sorry”. Subtle it wasn’t but Read more…

  5. Winners and losers in Abu Dhabi

    November 16, 2010 by

Last weekend wasn’t a good one if you were Australian. First of all the rugby team, reckoned to be the second best in the world behind New Zealand’s All Blacks, got hammered at Twickenham by a resurgent England, and then the nation’s Formula One hopes were dashed as championship contender Mark Webber had a lack-lustre weekend at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and never looked in contention. It was pretty bad if you were Spanish or Italian as well. Fernando Alonso arrived at the season’s final race eight points ahead of Webber in the drivers’ Read more…

    March 17, 2009 by

This year’s Formula One season kick-offs this month and all of the leading teams have now revealed their 2009 challengers and it’s perhaps time to consider who is likely to deliver the goods. Remember the last lap? Well it starts up again at the end of the month! The new regulations: It’s not just a question of the regular suspects carrying on where they left off last year either, as a whole raft of new regulations has meant that everyone has had to go back to the drawing board (alright Computer-Aided Design system) and start Read more…

  7. Make or break for Renault?

    February 17, 2009 by
ING have to pull out so they can clean all those windows

The Renault Formula One team is in a very precarious position at the moment. Despite taking a couple of unexpected wins in 2008, last season was not a good one for the French concern, which has targeted 2009 as the year in which in needs to re-establish itself as a consistent front-runner if it is to survive. Unfortunately, that position has become even more precarious with the news that the team’s title sponsor, Dutch banking group ING, is to pull out of Formula One at the end of this year. On 15 February, the company Read more…

  8. Honda pull out of F1

    December 5, 2008 by

Seems like it’s a day of bad news, isn’t it? Honda, the great failures of Forumla 1 have pulled completely out of F1, with immediate effect. Honda have decided that spending a reported £300million a year to run round the back is not a good marketing plan and will put that money to something better – perhaps a dancing robot or something. It’s a shock for F1 to lose such a big car manufacturer and has led to more calls to cut costs for the teams, much to the dismay of herman munster-alike Fernando Alonso.
