1. Malaysian Malaise

    by

Weather forecasts are notoriously inaccurate. Doesn’t matter whether they’re long-range or short-range, even a small change in wind speed or air pressure can send a shower of rain or an entire weather system away from its predicted course. Remember last year’s barbecue summer? No, neither do I. Which is why it beggared belief on Saturday in Malaysia when some of the most experienced teams on the grid chose to put their entire faith in a radar screen which showed showers clearing from the circuit before the end of the first qualifying session. Others put their Read more…

Own a second generation iPad with some proper specifications? How about drive and own a one-off sports car? Yep – that’s got to be on the list. Well, readers of Carrentals, I did just that. 5. Boredom in Bahrain

    by

An unlikely fan of Formula One is the Radio One DJ Chris Moyles, yet on Friday last week he was extolling the virtues of the sport on his morning show and encouraging anyone who hadn’t watched it to tune in this weekend for the first race of the year. If anyone did, I’m afraid it’s unlikely they will bother again. 8. Geneva Motor Show

    by
    Jaguar XKR

The 80th Geneva Motor Show takes place from 4-14 March this year and the manufacturers are lining up to show off their latest offerings. Beleaguered Toyota is hoping to draw attention away from its accelerator and braking woes with the world premiere of the production-ready Auris HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive). This model marks a milestone in the company’s programme to introduce its full hybrid powertrain technology across its entire model range by the early 2020s, though whether its current problems and admission of having ‘grown too quickly’ will affect the timescale remains to be seen.
