In an survey undertaken by this very blog, we’ve found some really startling things out from you, or avid reader. Who is more likely to crash a car and not tell anyone? Who would give up their car to be greener? All is revealed below….

Men are six times more likely to speed than Women
It’s a classic, but it’s true – Men are perpetual speeders. Only 11% of our female respondents admitted that they sped and got caught, whilst a whopping 88% of our men that undertook our survey said they sped. Perhaps it’s a badge of honour for the lads to say how quick they are.

45-60 year old men are most likely to speed

However, it’s not the young, 18-25 year olds who are the fastest drivers. Our survey showed that it was the 45-60s who are the biggest speeders, with the 36-45 year olds right in their slipstream. In fact, the 18-25 year olds were the slowest. However that may be a result of these days kids not being able to afford fast cars or the petrol that they burn!

Women are three times more likely to buy extra insurance when hiring a car than Men
When it comes to buying the extra insurance for cars, women are far more cautious than men.

Either they’ve got extra insurance or think that it’s a rip off, men stay away from ‘shelling out more money than they need to’. Again it’s the older generation who tend to stay away from the extra charges, with the 46-60 range declining it the most.

Extra insurance - what for exactly?

Men are three times more likely to not tell a hire car company that they’ve pranged their car
Yes, men are a bunch of reckless driving liars. And the older they get, the more they’re prepared to try and get away with it.

For women on the other hand, there is a consistent amount of them through each age range who have crashed a hire car and not told the company.

Men are eight times more likely to be accused of damaging a hire car than women
Leading on from our previous result, it seems that hire car companies have good reason to accuse men of damaging their cars. And, like the rest of this survey, it’s the older generation who are accused more of pranging their cars, with me more likely to get into a ‘heated discussion’ about that scratch on the wing.

“It was like this when I got there!” Men are more likely to be blamed for damage.

My advice? When you ever hire a car take many a picture of the car before you leave from every angle, to show evidence that it was ‘like that when you got there’

Men are four times more likely than Women to consider giving up their cars and just using hire cars

Interestingly, men are far more prepared than women to give up their car and only hire cars as and when they need them.

Get rid of the car - get the latest gadget!

This is despite them crashing them, not paying for the extra insurance and being accused of destroying the company’s possessions, they will still give up their car.

Is this because of the need to have the newest, shiniest car available or is it really a contentious attempt to be green?

And why do women want to hang onto their cars? Are their thoughts more that it’s better the devil they know, or is it that they know where to put their make-up and don’t want to change anything?
