  1. Travel and your Mobile: Roaming Costs in Australia

    July 31, 2012 by

It looks like it’s not just snakes and spiders and scorpions that you should watch out for when you’re Down Under. It turns out that there’s another hidden stinger in Oz. Australia is one of the priciest countries in the ‘developed world’ when it comes to untold mobile data and voice roaming charges, a recently commissioned report has suggested. Bill Shock This new investigation comes hot on the heels of a full set of recommendations from something exciting called ‘The Australian Communication and Media Authority’ (whatever that is), which found that more and more people visiting Australia on business or holiday are suffering from what’s understandably known as ‘bill shock’ when they return home to find that their phone services are far more expensive than they first thought they’d be. Source Top Ten The roaming charges study found that Australia was number eight in the list of most expensive countries in the world for downloading Read more…

    July 27, 2012 by

Source Do you enjoy a good adrenalin rush? Is the thought of climbing a mountain without ropes, hooks and clips exciting to you? Well, then it sounds like you are into deep water soloing! If you have never heard of this sport, don’t feel too bad. In fact, this is one of the lesser known forms of climbing out there. However, before you run out to give deep water soloing a try, you need to know if this is a sport for you. So here is our review!   What is Deep Water Soloing? Source Before we get into this subject anymore, we need to cover just what deep water soloing is. Pretty much, this involves climbing rock formations that have been formed over large bodies of water. Since you are climbing over deep water, you eliminate the need for most of your climbing gear. There are some people who still use a simple rope Read more…

  3. The Olympic Games Begin!

    July 26, 2012 by

Source   Now you may not have heard much about it as it’s been kept fairly low-key over the past few months, but the Olympic Games are taking place here in London this year. How did they keep it so quiet, eh…? National Pride Oh, we’re being sarcastic of course. The Olympics has been a major talking point recently, even with the fanfare over the Euro 2012 Championship, Andy Murray’s Wimbledon performance and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. And at the back of the nation’s collective mind since the decision to let London host the games was made way back in 2005 (beating off the likes of Moscow, New York, Moscow and Paris). Source   Excited? Most of the pre-Olympics talk has been about publicity and ticket sales. The Olympic torch has been paraded around the country in an effort to build up excitement for the Olympics and boost ticket sales and TV viewing figures. For Read more…

When hiring a car, most companies will Read more…

  5. Finding balance in Airport Security

    July 24, 2012 by

Security issues have loomed large in the news recently. Security firm G4S’ fumbling over their Olympics contract and the interrogation of their big boss Nick Buckles has been all over the papers and the TV of late. However, G4S’ haven’t managed to supply the amount of security staff that the games demand. How much of a problem did this bring though? The government’s swift action of enlisting the help of the military to cover the shortfall shows how seriously they take the matter. As well as this, we’ve seen pictures in the news over the past few weeks of the massive snaking queues in Border Control at Heathrow Airport. The mixture of stricter security measures and new staff have meant that some people have had to queues for hours to get in the country and suspected terrorists have slipped through the net! Source   Necessity Obviously, there has to be security measures at airports to Read more…

  7. Our Review: Bog Snorkelling

    July 20, 2012 by

Source Don’t worry, that’s not a massive typo in our headline, you read that right – ‘Bog Snorkelling’. You shouldn’t feel bad if you don’t know what it entails, either. We assumed that it was some sort of toilet diving until we heard more…   So what is it? Source Well, in the simplest terms it’s a type of sport. A type of filthy, muddy sport. You see, it’s basically a swimming race. But instead of an aquatic face-off in a pool or other nice clean body of water, it happens in a dirty ol’ peat bog. Entrants have to complete two consecutive 55 metre lengths, with the quickest person deemed the winner. You’re not allowed to employ any traditional swimming strokes, so there can be no streamlined back crawl or powerful butterfly to guide you through the muck. You can only really rely  on ‘flipper power’ (you’re allowed flippers and a wetsuit).   Where Read more…
